What Are You Afraid Of?
A Micro Blog: Ever sat across from someone you admire believing you were going to get tremendous support for an inspired decision or choice you’d made – only to be told you are nuts? Whether it was in your personal or professional life, their reaction may have stunned you. I know I have been stunned.
Over the course of my life, I’ve always jumped head first into the big waves, taken on the wild and curvy roads, lived with an open heart, and pursued goals with passion instead of following a safer, beaten path. It hasn’t always been well received by the ones I love, but I haven’t loved them any less.
Here’s what I’ve learned. People who love you try to protect you from THEIR biggest fears, and not necessarily yours. However, when you get a reaction that is completely misaligned with your value set, take a beat. Don’t get angry. Consider what their fear may be and understand if it could be something you might learn from. We can listen, learn, take perspectives into our portfolio of thought, and reject their fears if they don’t fit with our own.
We do not have to be afraid of what those we love fear.
To some, choosing to be an entrepreneur is a pretty absurd decision. To entrepreneurs, it’s the only decision.
